When a sextortion threat arrives, it feels like the world is collapsing: shame, fear, and then silence. You isolate yourself, shut yourself away, believe that keeping quiet is protecting yourself. But staying alone is exactly what the abuser is waiting for, because sextortion thrives on secrecy. Breaking this silence is not a weakness, it is the most effective defence strategy.
\nThis capsule explains why seeking support changes everything: to regain your calm, because alone you panic and panic leads to mistakes (giving in, paying, sending), whereas with someone you trust you breathe, think and act methodically; to neutralise the threat, by showing your loved ones that you are the victim of a crime, which takes all the fuel away from the threat; and to secure yourself technically, by getting help to block access and keep the evidence.
\nBlackmail is a bridge between the abuser and the victim, held together by her silence. As soon as the victim talks to someone, she cuts that bridge. Nobody has to tell everyone everything: one trusted person, or a specialised organisation in Benin trained to listen without judging, is already enough. The shame must change sides, it was never the victim\u2019s.
